# One number a month

> The Green Tokens newsletter: one number from the index, one note on what moved, one pointer to read further. Monthly, by email.
>
> Lead Green, a Katonic project. Canonical page: https://leadgreen.ai/newsletter/ (this file: https://leadgreen.ai/newsletter/index.md). Updated 27 September 2026, data version 2026-09-27. Licence: CC BY 4.0 for the compilation and text; sources keep their own licences. GPU energy only, measured at steady state on a busy server (the most energy-efficient configuration under a latency limit). Host, network, cooling and idle time are not counted. Every figure is a floor; a lightly used server sits well above it. Machine-readable data: https://leadgreen.ai/api/v1/ (see llms.txt).

*Newsletter*

The Green Tokens edition is deliberately short: **one number** from the index, **one note** on what moved it or what it means, and **one pointer** to something worth reading. If the index did not change, the note says so. No round-ups, no sponsors.

## Email edition

The email edition is being set up. Until it opens, the meter runs inside [Own Your AI](https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/own-your-ai-7508174547041292288/), the fortnightly LinkedIn newsletter, which will carry one number from this index in every issue from its next edition.[Read Own Your AI on LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/own-your-ai-7508174547041292288/)[Blog RSS feed](https://leadgreen.ai/feed.xml)

## What an edition looks like

*Sample, built from the current index*

**The number.** 63.5 Wh per million output tokens: Qwen 3 32B on 2 × H100, the index's reference row, at a running batch of 256 and 44 ms median inter-token latency.

**The note.** The same model on the same cards reads 452 Wh/M at a running batch of 8. The 7.1× between those two rows is not the model and not the hardware. It is how busy the server was.

**The pointer.** ML.ENERGY Leaderboard v3.0, Text Conversation tab, sorted by energy per token, with the About tab open beside it for the method.

**Cadence.** Monthly, on the first working day, or sooner when a measurement lands that changes a tile. **Length.** Under 200 words. **Archive.** Every edition is posted to the [blog](https://leadgreen.ai/blog/) the same day, so the RSS feed carries them too.

**Own Your AI.** Prem Naraindas's fortnightly LinkedIn newsletter on sovereign AI will carry a three-line "meter" block with one reading from this index in every issue, from its next edition. The two do not overlap: Own Your AI is about control, this one is about energy.
